We had hope to have our bees in their new home sooner, but needed to wait until everything was in place to keep our young people safe. We have made history today though, with the help of our very first young beekeeper. He got kitted out in his bee suit and helped carry the equipment to the meadow. We were about to teach him how to light the smoker and his first words were, "I can do this. I'm a forest school practitioner"! You've taught him well, Stewart - a confident approach with fire safety from one of Rossie's own forest school attendees!
We transferred the 6 frames, with plenty of healthy brood to their new hive and found the queen hiding in the bottom of the nuc. The bees had even made a little extra bit of honeycomb on the lid, so our young person could have his first taste of pure natural honey and take it back to his house as a souvenir. A great day all round!
